Young squad shows promise

Bryncethin travelled West to take on fourth placed Crynant in a more confident mood after improved performances, and numbers in training, in recent weeks but again conceded a soft try in the opening five minutes of the game. Once they settled down they progressed into the home 22 and were rewarded a penalty, converted by a Gareth Pearce, to close the gap to 7-3, but it was the home side who then crossed for a further two tries, one converted, to move into a comfortable 16 point lead at 19-3.
Bryncethin tried to move the ball wide, away from the heavier home pack, at every opportunity and were rewarded when centre Ryan James made an excellent break before handing on to wing Josh Evans who showed a great turn of speed to cross for a try. Pearce converted and added a further penalty to reduce the home side's lead to just 6 points at the break.
Early in the second period it was the experienced outside half Pearce who opened the scoring with another well struck penalty to reduce the points difference to just 3 before the home side then kicked another penalty and scored a further two tries, one converted, to increase their lead to 34-16.
Following another good handling movement Ryan James crossed for a try to round off a good afternoons personal performance and Pearce converted to leave the final score at 34-23 to Crynant.
For Bryncethin there were good performances from the back row forwards Corey Rogers and Thomas Pascoe, whilst forwards substitutes Leon Sylvester and Shane Jones gave their all, and in the backs, wings Aled James and young Josh Evans gave their opposite numbers lots of problems.
Bryncethin's next match is on April 1st. when they travel to Glyncorrwg who presently sit one below them in the league.
